Special Constables
Would Special Constable Sydney F. Ling be awarded a Defence Medal to accompany his Special Constables GviR medal?
Any thoughts as to this would be welcome as I have a Defence medal which I think was his which of course being WWII was not named. Medals really are not my thing and I may offer this on the forum in the future. Thanks in advance Rob |

Rob,
You would have to find out his length of service during WW2 to see if he fitted the entitlement to a DM. regards

Rob, if he only served as a Special during WW2 then he would be entitled to the Defence Medal as well, the normal qualifying period being 3 years. The qualifying period for the Long Service Medal was 9 years with war service counting as treble so he must have served at least 3 years.

Two possible suspects. Sidney Frank Ling, born Ipswich 1913, died Ipswich 2006. Sidney Frank Ling, born West Ham 1912, died Brentwood 1994.
