Default 5th (Ardwick) Volunteer Bn, the Manchester Regt Rifles Cap.

A Rifles sealskin cap of the5th (Ardwick) Volunteer Battalion, the Manchester Regiment, originally posted in this thread as I didn't know the unit (it was soon identified, thank you Manchester):

https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...ad.php?t=69602

Inside the cap was an shellac'd fabric tube for the plume, over the years the finish on this and the chinstrap had congealed.

The plume tube was covering white painted unit markings "5th V.B.M.R." and what looks like "772".

The chinstrap is a single strip of leather with no buckle or slider fitting, sewn to the cap at one end and adjusted via hook and piercings at the other.

The badge boss and top of the cap are black, the cords appear to be black.

I'm pleased to get such a cap complete, they often have badges, bosses, chinstrap's and/or plumes missing and thus leave you wondering what units the combination of colour of cords and cap top etc indicate.
To have the unit markings inside is a bonus.

Great to see such an intact example of such an item of headgear and to see it presented in so many detailed photographs, thank you Leigh for taking the time to show it off to its best.

Thanks the images would've been better if I'd used camera rather than phone, but it was a case of using what was to hand.

Whilst I agree that in most cases my digiSLR takes better pics, those from the phone are not too bad, especially close ups as I have yet to buy a close up lens for the digiSLR.
