Hi Gents,

Would welcome opinions on this badge if possible.

Thanks

Kevin

I'm not saying that its bad but its not one i would keep as the only RAOC badge of that era (49-53) that i have seen on lugs is in guilt and the lugs are long in more of an oval shape (those on your badge appear to be round).

Some of the other RAOC collectors may be in a better position to tell as although i have a good collection of RAOC i have very few on lugs.

Regards
Steve

Steve,

Thanks for your reply and letting me know of your concerns.
I have attached a better shot of the lugs and will await any more posts before I consign it to the naughty box.

Again thanks for looking.

Kevin

Default RAOC Lugs

I have one of these. I believe it to be, at the very least, a legitimate or's cap badge variant, possibly something else. The lugs I believe are a red herring - several corps' badges of this period are found with lugs as a variation. I won't be getting rid of mine in a hurry - an interesting badge worthy of further research. Mike

I do not have one, but was told a few years ago that they were privately produced in limited numbers for fitting to the Coloured Field Service Cap (Side Cap), a PRI item and not that common at the time.

I only have an officers KC version with bullion badge.
I have a later QC OR version complete with badge with slider & badge backing to stop it rocking.

I had my doubts about it as i have never seen this design before. Being on loops it would IMO suggest that it is an officers badge but i could see no signs of guilt finish to support this. I also looked through the few pages of Mike Comefords's research into Ordnance Insignia which i downloaded from the internet many many years ago and could not see this design anywhere amongst his research - Hence my original opinion that i would not be keen to have it in my collection. I am thankful for your input and knowledge on this variant which has had me wondering if i were missing an item from my collection.

Steve

To Kevin who originated this post. I have several soldier's KC crown spares and would be happy to let you have one if you pm me your address
Regards
Steve

As it is the Voided Version it is, in my mind different so in my collection I have it so. I also have one of that is very definitely Officer's pattern as it still shows signs of a gilt finish. The other two may have a small amount of gilt. One is cast and manufactured by Gaunt, the other is die stamped but not named.
