Default AA The Royal Gibraltar Regiment

Gents, recent find - anodised Royal Gibraltar Regiment marked Dowler. Birmingham on a rather ropey khaki beret, but a rather nice example of the backing, not too often found.

Fairly certain that Other Ranks wear a 'bronzed' metal cap badge nowadays as opposed to the AA one.

Nice example though.

Bess

Good that it's come on a beret too.
The regiment's part of The Queen's Division,
I take it the change from gold and silver colouring to bronzed badge for OR's is to follow the practise in the PWRR.

Thanks for the posting, I will have to see if I can find that backing for my badge.

The backing and khaki beret are incorrect for the coloured badge of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment.
On the 29th of April 2006 a significant change in the Regiment’s insignia took place when the old dark blue berets of the Artillery were replaced with khaki Infantry berets. The cap badge became deep bronze in colour and was backed by a ‘flash’ in the Regiment’s colours – the scarlet of Gibraltar’s Infantry protecting the limestone grey of the Rock.

Thats what I thought Marc, the badge came with the beret, but pretty sure they wear the bronzed metal badge now. Its just how it came . . .

bess 55,

An A/A version as per your photo was used until the bronze pattern was received and issued. There is also an A/A version that was locally "browned". A gilt/silver version is worn on the SD cap without the backing cloth.

Ian

That's the British Army doing their own thing again.

Not forgetting that they still wear the bi-metal one in No1 Dress caps.
