White Metal Helmet Centre Plates
I'm trying to get my head around white metal helmet centre plates, using East Surrey Regt as an example.
From what i've read in Kipling & King, the centre plate should be in gilded metal, and not in white metal, yet all of those I've seen for sale appear to be white metal variants. I'm aware that other regiments, such as the Hampshire Regt, issued white metal Glengarry badges to volunteer battalions and I'm, therefore, presuming that East Surrey would have done the same?

Hello,
Do you have photos of these w/m centres ? Neil . Edit: The reason I ask is that white metal variants of regular battalion centres which are not braised onto a star plate, are very rare. Last edited by Parabellum; 28-08-21 at 06:15 AM. Reason: Add on. |

The link you provide is to a Completely fake item from a well known seller of fake militaria. All the badges are fakes Gilding Metal Helmet Plate centres were worn by Regular Battalions. White Metal Helmet Plate Centres were worn by Volunteer Battalions but usually had the numbered VB title on the strap. regards
