Guernsey cloth title
Can anyone tell me which Unit in Guernsey wore or wears this cloth title, please? I assume it may be from a Guernsey reserve unit. It is about 7 cm long, white letters on khaki felt.
Any information would be welcome. |

This may have been worn by members of the ATS who were from Guernsey??? I have one in my collection of ATS titles.

Thanks for that. Hopefully someone may be able to confirm it, or say what it actually is.

Jerry, I am curious about the Guernsey ATS title. Can you share a photo? Need to know if I need to add it to my want list.
Thanks, Terry |

Thanks Jerry, look like I need to find me one then!
Does anyone happen to have a photo to support this? I did a few quick searches on the net, but didn't find anything. Terry |

Jon Mills, BoBD p.921 The National Service Act did not apply to the Channel Islands and there was some effort by Islander volunteers to express themselves. All batted down by the Army and worn unofficially. |

Channel Islands, Sark, Jersey and Guernsey titles were worn in the Royal Air Force, some of many titles never officially authorised by the Air Ministry. The Channel Islands are not part of the UK, just a dependent territory of it.

That was my first thought, but RAF nationality titles typically had pale blue lettering on the dark blue background.

No, the original badge in the post isnt Royal Air Force, although it is identical so to Air Force examples I have.
But it was an example that, as the Channel Islands are not part of the UK, it was considered an 'overseas' nationality title. Another similar Air Force one I have seen is Gibraltar. It might be that 'Channel Islands' (or individual islands titles) were accepted as 'overseas' titles in the military too. |

Might be of use. If you have any to add please let me know.

I have about 600 Nationality titles, but all are Air Force I'm afraid.

A photograph of the Guernsey title being worn by an ATS private will appear in the next edition of The Formation Signthe journal of the Military Heraldry Society.
In the meantime an example of the Channel Islands title worn attached. Jon |

Great picture Jon! The backing on the title seems to match the uniform, so I would say the white on khaki is the one for the ATS girls. Suspect they will be tough titles to find though!
If the next issue might be available to members, I would like a copy, as I am not able to swing a sub until first of the year. Terry |
