Default ID cavalry regiment?

I would be most grateful if anyone can identify the regiment with which these two gents were serving. I am assuming that it is a cavalry regiment, given the regimental badge above rank stripes.

Apologies for clarity of definition. This is the best I can do with my scanner.

Any insights welcome!
