The red backing was tomb stone shaped rather than cut to shape as in your picture. As Colin has commented the red in your picture is Poppies and I have never seen the red backing being worn in conjuction with the black one. Lots of pictures on our Association Page.

Thanks for the replies guys, it's much appreciated. I have seen pics that look like a tombstone, I've seen pics that look like a shaped background so I am going to message the regiment and enquire with them. I know the tombstone was worn on the blue beret as I've got one in the attic.
I asked someone who was in the RWY around the time it changed and he said he had a backing resembling the shape of the badge sewn onto the black square on the brown beret, but having seen both described I will make the enquiry to find out for definite  Thanks again, Bill
