I thought Stretcher Bearer (I think I'd be pushing things too far to say RN Shore Patrol at Gallipoli).
Looks like a dog tag tied to his braces.
It's a pity that helmet flash isn't more visible.
I have photos somewhere of Garrison Police GP etc worn on the left lower arm, could this be Stores Police?

Hard to say isn't it, looks like a square or rectangle, a vertical strip followed by a lighter coloured one.......

Hi JT
Just looked at the album section and have seen all the other pics related to the pic you show, it's not Middlesex as I can see some other flashes, RA possibility ?

Thanks blokes. I should have thought to include some other shots of the bigger picture (apologies):

I wasn't sure of the partially obscured letter on the band, so refrained from assuming Stretcher Bearer - plus that seemed a little incongruous with the scene as it's presented to us. Unless he knows something about the food being prepared that we don't!

Our armband-wearer is not a 'Spud Peeler' , as he's obviously left that particular pleasure to matey here:

Definitely a bit of grub on the way, though nobody seems to be in a particular hurry to eat. I reckon this is a local council pals battalion... one working, a dozen watching!

Wondering now if this was perhaps a specialist unit sent out into the field to begin trials on the newly conceived art of camouflage warfare...

... a bit of fine tuning still required here and there .

Thanks for your replies, gents. Always appreciated.

JT

It is definitely Sanitary Police/Patrol, a Great War armlet Red on yellow.

It would be good to see the picture though!
