Smile Decent badge pick up, interesting post war paratrooper items

Hi guys,

Picked this stuff up yesterday with a bunch of Medals from a Mechanic at the Golan Heights, I usually don't like post war badges but there were some interesting ones in there and some neat medals. Also a WW2 Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa (M.G.) badge and some 48th stuff, no idea how that got in as the soldiers dad was in a different unit.

Could anyone give me an idea of the country/date of the paratrooper wings? I was wondering what the circular knife green badge was for and what period it was from, as well as the polish patch.

Thanks!

Hi capbadge, nice catch there. As for your questions, the para wings are Israeli wings and they are modern. As for the knife,it is upside down and it is for Group 1 Infantry. The Polish badge is,IMO the generic badge worn by all Polish units attached to the UN in the Golan.

Hi Jo,

Thanks! That makes lots of sense, he was in the Golan Heights/Middle East for some time, which would explain the pick ups, I wonder if he traded with Israeli/Polish soldiers

Here's a pic of his medals/uniform:

He most probably traded with other soldiers based in the Golan. One interesting item in the bunch is the UNEF/CANADA with the outlined red maple leaf cap badge.I was told that these are maybe not scarce but hard to come by.
