Signals Cap Badge CEF
Hello:
In the CEF series signals cap badges Charltons describes the large / small variation and suggests that there is an Officers' variation that is gilt on brass with enamel. My question is what part of the gilt on brass badge is enameled and in what colours of enamel. Is it just the flags that received the enamel treatment or did the letters / crown receive enamel as well? I don't have a picture that I can post but I have been offered a badge that appears to me to be a sweetheart pin with north south orientation of the pin. The badge in question has blue white enamel on the flags, red blue enamel on the CRC letters and red enamel on the lower banner and the crown as well. I have not yet had this badge in the hand. Thank you Don |

Don, with the enamel abbreviation I think you are looking at a sweetheart pin of some sort.

Phil, Chris and Bill:
Thank you all for taking the time to help me on this one. Chris a great picture of a wonderful cap badge. Yes the only colour pictures I could find of the enameled ones had the use of blue and white enamel restricted to the field of the flags. The other difference I found was that fact that the space in the vicinity of the beaver was not voided as exists in Chris' picture and others including the grainy ones in Charltons. I am not free to post the picture I have or I would and that would have made the discussion easier. This is another series of badges that have so far eluded my collection. They are truly great examples of the badge makers art of the time. Thank you Don |

Hi Don! You are describing a "Sweet-Heart" pin. The image supplied by Chris is the Officer's HB. There are a number of Sweet-Hearts all with different use of enamel on the Crown, "CSC" letters and banners. The HB only has enamel on the flags
