Hi Alan,
Well, that's what I took out from the discussion thus far, circa 1948 or later but I was curious to see it was, what appears to be, a bronze badge apparently with loops for attachment. I would have thought it should be nickel or white metal at this point? Trying to learn here. So, bronze with loops circa 1950's would be... Officer or Other Ranks? Tim |

When it comes to cadets there are no rules. Alan |

The school's web entries only show a RAF section so I thought the same. Alan |

I've looked at the website for old photos and there isn't much circa WW1.
Is there a list showing the military commanding officers, with dates served, since school inception? I also understand there is a difference between the OTC and CCF, but did the military chain of command cover both or were they too, separate commands with their own chain of command structures? Tim |

I have been looking into Downside CCF badges and here is proof that the 2nd pattern badge shown in K&K is not OTC but CCF.
The brass shield version with OTC title is recorded by EJ Martin in 1938. CCF badge still worn with k/c today by senior cadets. Last edited by Alan O; 12-06-17 at 10:18 AM. |

From the Bloxham history:
Successive Ministry of Defence orders, issued at the speed of drill commands in 1967 and 1968, reduced the size and altered the character of the corps. It became affiliated to the Royal Green Jackets, losing its distinctive brass cap badge of the school arms and the black and white shoulder flashes, though the former has been restored in 1977. |

A little unrelated, but reading through this thread brings a question I have been wondering about.
Although I don't collect school cadet program badges I do have items from the three schools that have "Hospital" in their name. From what pictures I've been able to find online seems they wore the regimental badge they are associated with. One badge I have is for Christ's Hospital School, which is a school badge. So my question is p- from looking at he pictures in this thread, some wear the regimental badge while it seems some wear the school badge - is there any policy involved in what badge they wear? Thanks, Terry |

No policy at all. Pre 1908 some school cadet corps had their own badge but most wore the insignia of the VB unit they were lined to. From 1908 nearly, but not all, OTCs had their own badge. Through the 30's and 40's with the advent of JTC many went back to Regular badges. CCFs so even more re-badge. This continues to today but some still wear CCF badges. Cadet Corps mostly wore the regular and few wore their own (except for 1930-32 when they had to stop wearing them). Alan |
