David, the Shropshire Yeomanry are now part of the Royal Yeomanry. I drove past a huge banner declaring it in Telford .D Sqn I think.
I've seen the single Loggerhead arm badge in use. Over the years they have been Mercian Yeomanry,Royal Lancastrian and Mercian Yeomanry and now Royal Yeomanry. The arm badges may have evolved over that period of time to whatever the current issue arm badge is. Just looked at them online. There appears to be some sort of arm badge worn by all ranks on the left upper arm. But I cant make out what the actual badge is. Last edited by Mike H; 04-09-20 at 05:53 PM. |

Perhaps a personal affectation by a long serving Shropshire Yeoman using a trimmed down Shrewsbury Town Football Club badge?

To me items like this is what makes the insignia of local units so fascinating.

Tim I think you may be on the right line most of the circular badges that would match have the date 1886 on them The nearest that I can see is a 1980 1981 retro football shirt , red tongue present I know this is many years before the formation of the R M LY 1992

Bob re your badge with the cheshire collars -C sqd I have the backing as dark blue/mustard [yellowish ] and the badge with the greyish backing next to D sqd collars I have this backing as B squadron information obtained from ex member of the regiment from Telford
A sqd I have the collars worn as the staffs bear and pole and the ones that you show as worn in the Royal Yeomanry now B sqd Bob having stated the above I must admit that I find it hard with the moving about of the yeomanry regiments David Last edited by 49lassiepen; 05-09-20 at 02:37 PM. |
