Default Assistance to identify an Officer

Greetings all.

Seeking some assistance if I may.

I recently acquired a pair of menu holders, both of which have a very nice silver badge attached, both holders are marked as "silver 930" with the initials AK embossed immediately after.

I'm happy with the silver markings as being genuine, possibly Norwegian origin with a 930 marking, but that research continues.

What is causing me a headache is trying to identify the name of the person who presented them.

The engraving reads; Presented by BRIG D.J LONDON OBE A.D.C.

I have spent some time searching on the various sites I have access to, but cannot find any Officer of Brigadier level or above named London dating back to 1707.

I'm none to clever searching the National Archives nor Harts list, but having entered what I have, nothing yet again.

I've searched but cannot find any listings for Aide de Camps either.

Perhaps they are knocked up items, but if they are, two very good quality silver 24th Middlesex RV Officer cap/badges have been used.

Any assistance with identification will be much appreciated.

Many thanks.

Brian

Is the year 1707 a typo? How do you know the year? Also, if Brig London was OBE, it must be post 1916.
Cheers,
Alex

Try searching the 1980's .

Found this on eBay :

September 1982 edition of THE ROYAL ENGINEERS JOURNAL lists THE COUNCIL OF THE INSTITUTION OF ROYAL ENGINEERS and under "Ex-Officio Members" :

Mike: many thanks, I shall do more research on the information you have provided. Much appreciated.

Alex: 1707 was the date the list I found started with, it showed all officers of Brigadier and above from that date to the present. I wasn't suggesting London was about then.

Regards.

As the former member Silver Something used to say, "you cannot have too many books in this hobby". I picked up two volumes of a 1975 Army list at a car boot sale many years ago thinking that they may come in useful one day.

It would seem that the day has finally arrived.

Many thanks for the additional information.

It is truly quite amazing what bits and pieces folk on here have stashed away that invariably assist in answering a random question.

Looking at the new info. I reckon he should have been called London The Alphabet considering all the various letters and abbreviations he has behind his name.

Regards.

Hi Brian,

He is in London Gazette June 1970 supplement 45138 page 7187 for promotion from Major to Lt. Colonel (postal and courier section). Time on my hands as soaps on tv
