Default Pip rank markings

Hello there! I have this rank badge (I think you name it as pip) and I was wondering if the backing markings (3/4) means something...I have been searching in here but I can't find any thread about pips markings...Sorry and thanks!

Its probaly the size.
Various pips are worn, they vary in colour ,size and design. All dependant on which Regt or Corps and which uniform.

Could it indicate the finish too, say enamelled and gilded, "3", the same item bronzed "4", something along those lines?

The marking 3/4 would indicate the size in inches (three quarters of an inch) , these rank stars came in various sizes , 3/4" would be approximately 19mm.

Have seen sizes 11.5mm - 24mm.

Others may be able to explain the reason for the different sizes.

The size of the stars, like the finish, would depend on the regiment and the order of dress on which worn.

In the British Army 'uniform' does not mean 'all the same'. As said in previous posts, rank pips or stars come in many sizes, metals and finishes. A few examples in my album:

Hi, see if it’s 3/4 of an inch across the flats or the points, and you might have your answer.
