Defence not Defiance
Following on from my earlier post regarding Home front badges, I've been digging a little deeper into the box and uncovered some more that came with the ones that I showed. A silver ARP, A crowned Imperial Service, Blue enamel Home Guard, A plastic economy Home Guard and a pierced TA. They go nicely with my earlier mentioned ones.
There is one more. I've not identified it and am not sure what it represents, or whether it fits in the same category as the rest. It's a small round, crowned, button hole badge, bearing the motto Defence not Defiance with a L V or V L in the centre. Made by M. Lewis & Co. New Bond St. I don't have a photo but if my description doesn't suffice I can add one later if requested. Mel. Last edited by melh; 07-08-21 at 04:59 PM. |

Defence Not Defiance is the motto that appears on badges of the Highland Light Infantry of Canada.
There’s a photo of a badge in the album section: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/ca...y_of_canad.htm I’m not sure whether any other regiments use the motto, though.

There is another moto in Latin which I forgot to include.
Pro aris et focis ("for hearth and home") |

That’s the motto of the Middlesex Yeomanry. I’m not sure whether that will be of any help?

Well I think that solves it nicely.
Many thanks, Mel. |
