Not necessarily a fake....
This is not necessarily a fake! The French 1er RPIMa, the French equivalent of the SAS, recently re-adopted the ‘winged dagger’ with French language ‘Who Dares Wins’ motto, as they are descended from 2 and 3 RCP who were 3 and 4 SAS in the SAS Brigade in WWII. Whether this particular one is a fake I don’t know, but the elite of the French Army SF units is definitely wearing a similar badge on their maroon berets.

Colin,
Well as they say one lives and learns. I will watch and see what others have to say but you certainly through a different light on it. Cheers Steve |

Picture of the French "SAS".
Not sure how rare this patch is. Will have to see home many personnel are in the unit. |

Four combat (RAPAS) companies, plus one cmd/log company and one trg company.
Note that the photo above not only shows the beret badge on a maroon beret (compared to the redder beret worn by other French para units) but also French para instructor wings on right breast and the RAPAS wings on left breast, with obvious SAS influence.
