Not sure where the Laphroig came from
This site is one of the reasons you should be very cautious with Scottish Militaria.

A most pleasing brooch, but, no machine guns or tanks though.

The PM far left seems to have retained the Cairn Stone
No MGC guns found

Excellent, so the RTR have worn brooches with a TC badge, I am certainly surprised.

Cairn stone? I was wrong with the Cairngorm wasn't ? (Flashback to the winter of '76 and a painful ski-ing course).

There is also a 'Guns' plaid brooch in the Forum's Pipers badge section:

Interestingly, the identification there is MGC, rather than RTR.

I'm all for units commemorating their forebears, be it cadet units wearing the badge of the Lovat Scouts (no longer the case?), Tankies wearing MG insignia or RRF carrying the oldDrummer's Colours of the NF - good stuff.

The only plaid brooch I've seen by 4 RTR in photos is the one with the yellow Cairngorm centre - any photos of other brooches available?
For the RTR to really commemorate their forebears they should not only be displaying Machine Gun Corps and Tank Corps badges but, as all the original drivers serving with the Heavy Branch MGC were ASC attached to the MGC, remaining so until the formation of the Tank Corps, then for completeness they would display the 1911-1918 pattern ASC badge as well. I won't be holding my breath though.

When were these commemorative brooches first made?
