Army Education Collection
All,
thought I would show the new additions to my collection now that it has been reframed. As ever I'm always on the lookout for Army Education items, especially the unusual (or to replace the space filler repros). Regards Mike |

Remarkable collection. I found the badging of the BD blouse fascinating - the Lancastrian Training Brigade sign on the left arm and 1 (BR) Corps on the right. The blue/yellow tape on the shoulder straps presumably indicates the RAEC Sgt's affiliation to one of the Regiments which made up the Lancastrian Brigade - King's Own Royal Regiment perhaps? Ideas please! Mike

Mike,
Most probably no connection at all but I have had the ( unknown to me ) Kings title with the blue and yellow backing for many years. Peter

Superb presentation - all on mounting board I assume.
Not only excellent items but you have obviously taken time to space them out, group them i.e. present them. The Edward VII helmet plate with light blue enamel is a particularly attractive item. Also the certificates - great condition. Mike |

Hello, have you ever read A Trooper in the 'Tins' by R A Lloyd? He ended up in the Education Corp at the end of the First War.

Mike, my assumption was the same and that the set was attached to a regiment - I've seen quite a few pics of sets with other regiments flashes and, even though it is against our dress regs, many ETS officers still wear headdress etc from attached regiments.
Matti, I've seen the book but not got it so far - it is on my list for the future. Regards Mike |

Mike B, I'm very pleased with the helmet plate but the star is definitely the plastic AEC badge. (Also corps of army school master and trial pattern RAEC).
PeterMc, what are your fathers details I might be able to get some pics from our regimental collection. Regards Mike |

Hello Mike
he was 3657469 Gerard Patrick McGoldrick; 6 Feb 1940 - 6 Feb 1946. He had a batman whilst stationed for part of his service in Cornwall, a 'Ned' Cunningham who had won the DCM. I have a picture of Ned but don't know if he was in the AEC or just attached, nor do I know where his DCM was earned.

Hello Mike
You have a lot of excellent items for sure. I certainly acknowledge the Army Education Corps plastic is a 'holy grail' badge - but mine went green and distorted - I became nervous of plastic badges as a result and sold them quite a few years ago (a virtually complete collection in terms of unit representation, including a rare Hertfordshire Regiment - possibly a trial pattern.) Plastic badges appear to require particularly close attention and protection. Perhaps I was unlucky. They were kept in the dark, on boards, in an upright position. Others may know better how they should be protected. Yours is a superb collection Mike Last edited by Mike B; 28-08-15 at 06:28 AM. |
