1st Officer Cadet Training Battalion.
Just acquired this one? Looks too big to be a Shoulder Title numeral (22 mm high by 12 mm wide)....
Could it be to the 1st OCB? Andy |

Great album Andy, and as you know, of ongoing interest to me.
Can't help I'm afraid, but presumably if it were the "1" OCB it would possibly have been worn above the "OCB" letters? How does it compare in size to the number six you have? There must be some pictures out there..... Cheers, Neil |

Neil,
it seems not all OCB wore the OCB Shoulder Title style badge below a numeral, as you can see in my album the 8th wore a plain "8". So I hoped someone could say "No your #1 is off a ......... ?" so I could discount it as a 1 OCB cap badge? Andy |

Hi Andy,
Congratulations on your fine album, some lovely items there. Not sure if this is relevant but here are some of my larger numerals. Top row are white-metal, bottom row are brass. Note the various lug styles. Cheers, Tinto |

I'm I being a bit optimistic, or have I managed to obtain an 8th OCB collar badge? The Cap Badges are scarce enough but I would have thought Collar Badges would be even scarcer (WW1) for OCB units? It looks too similar to be a shoulder numeral? It measures 15 x 25 mm. (Cap Badge 27 x 38 mm).
Thoughts please guys! Andy |

Did the OCB`s wear collar badges ? Some information in "British Uniforms and Equipment of the Great War " by John Bodsworth. "Initially no special insignia was authorised with some units wearing their battalion numbers in their caps and others on their shoulder straps".......................etc etc. No mention of collar badges
I also have a larger than "normal" ( for shoulder titles ) brass figure 8 which I picked up in case it has any connection with the Kings Liverpools. Pictures show it next to a normal size figure 6. The "8" has a single lug fixing and I have no idea who wore it. P.B.

Some nice badges in your album and you'll find some interesting information on OCB Badges in ACI's. The red worsted '8' on the khaki background - is I'm almost certain the arm badge of the 8th(Reserve)Brigade - a Training Reserve organisation.
My good friend John Sheen(The author) isn't a badge collector, but he has a large collection of OCB photo's depicting badges worn and if my memory is correct a few appear to wear Roman numerals. |

Graham,

I was unsure if they wore collars or not, as they probably did not all hav a bespoke cap badges (?) and hence the reason for the post, it is too close to the cap badge to dismiss outright without a little research. Info is scarce so anything on OCB insignia would be appreciated! Andy |

Just thought I'd add these to this thread, picked them up yesterday, the 2OCB has nice long lugs like the one in Andy's album,
