Silver and white metal badges were worn by volunteers.

Gents, I have a silver anodised/staybrite, small beret RA badge. The earlier flat type. I've been told it could be a scottish army cadet unit. Also got a silver anodised RA collar badge too. Any ideas guys?

I have also heard of this myself, but have been unable to find any proof or official authority for the silver coloured badge.

F-A-B,
Nice badges ! The 12 leaf TA with a solid wheel only ,is one I've not seen B4.
WM collar grenades worn by Vol. Artillery & Engineers. Also possibly by some Vol. Fusiliers also?? But not sure on this. The larger one may be just a variety (there are a few) or even an early 'Pork Pie' style hat badge. Once again, not too certain on this.
Cheers !
Steve

John, unfortunately he's too late. The much missed Norman Litchfield already collard that market.

See his Books:

Volunteers collar grenades in WM of a different (larger)flame pattern here. Larger general size than the normal, similar to the centre one shown in F-A-B's post.
Assume these were used by Artillery, but have no conclusive information that backs this up.
Anyone able to help with these?
Cheers !

Default Plastic version of the RA Gun cap badge...

Hello,
Here my contribution to this very interesting thread : the plastic version of the RA gun cap badge. This particular cap badge which is not very often seen in collections, has never left Normandy since 64 years ago. It has been given to a "Jolie Mademoiselle" who lived in a village located at the north of Caen as a sweetheart by a british gunner...
Note the long slider which is uncommun on plastic cap badges.
Cheers.

Default Close Ups

Been dabbling with close-ups/digital cameras for years - also collect stamps... a great device for real close-ups is the QX3/5 - connected to a PC via the USB port.
For close-ups of just the badge (i.e. "filling the lens") you just have to use a tripod - assuming that you don't want to use flash with its side effects - you can get these small table top ones - 6" legs etc - BUT, the camera has to have macro capability... I use a full sized tripod (lowered to coffee table height) - no flash, camera has a shutter delay timer. Works every time when the shot is taken near a window. No extra lighting required. Contrasting material behind the badge - e.g. felt - some coins under the felt help to keep the badge level. Hope this helps.

Rgds, David
