Truly shocking if Firmin & Son produced the RA and Para examples shown in this thread. A once great and quality badge manufacturer reduced to Azam’s of Lahore standards. |

The Officers cap badge has the crown doing a balancing act, but the other ranks crowns appear to have the crown sat correctly on the 'Ubique' scroll. Also the OR's badges look anodised, not new metal? What do others think... Chris |

Sorry I missed this one. There is also a Royal Fusiliers from JB too.

So Firmin had from Sept - May to cut a handful of new dies and make a handful of badges from each yet that’s the best they could do? Shocking. No wonder we are where we are in 2023. I expect these cottage industry coronation badges will be highly sought after and shortly (and very easily) faked since they’re glorified DIY. |

I think they did the same thing for met police helmet plates for the Queen's coronation, I remember in the 90's someone with an old cardboard box full of them a hundred or so, a new crown relpacing the kings and a new cypher on the front with some I seem to rember still being able to see GR underneath

They didn’t even attempt that this time. Expect Firmin ran out of bubble gum or silver spray paint.

The Army purchasing department should’ve looked on eBay! And I bet they paid more per badge than the JB copies / unofficial badges. |

Now you know what the small crown die is for.

The Pakistani makers should have been contracted. Their work is better. CB

There are a few clips in this youtube video of Firmin making the badges,"Behind the scenes of the Coronation | British Army"

Some police forces (not the Met.) did return their old KC plates to the manufacturers to have the KC snipped off and replaced with a QC. But those who did that were very few in number. Generally speaking, the police were not bothered and photographic evidence shows that in many cases the KC badges were worn well into the 1960's. Dave. If you're not at the right at the time you'll never find or see some of these things, I'm happy to be one that has on a good number of occasions been there.
