Possiblt 2nd Battalion was formerly North Staffords who had black facings.

Noticed a 5/6th Staffs for sale last night. A snip at £225 .

I knew I had this badge somewhere and came across it yesterday while having a sort out. I bought it on eBay a few months ago along with some other Staffordshire items. All common and cost only a few pounds in total.

I add it to this posting for interest. It is in a base metal ( but heavier than aluminium) and appears to be anodised or coated in gold. The two lugs have been pinched together. I have seen this done before, usually on Officer's cap badges.

As I paid very little for it I do not think it was made to deceive.It's manufacture is very similar to some cadet forces cap/beret badges that I have seen.

Mike I don't think it is the actual badge that started this thread but I posted pictures just to show that there may be others out there.This one was obtained by me for very little and not from any of the sellers named.I doubt it was made with the intention of selling for a high price.fred

I was looking for something else but to help date the single knot badge this photo was taken in 1962 and shows the Queen visiting the 5th/6th North Staffords. The North Staffs cap badge is clearly in use.

The press photo is not dated but his film (same Queen and same outfit at same place with the Staffs TA so the same day) is for 1962.

Related to another recent thread ,the South Staffs and North Staffs TA remained as separate battalions post amalgamation of the regulars. In the video ,there are at least 4 colours which would seen to intimate that at least 2 battalions received new colours that day.

Major Edwards book Edition 4 from 1966 records that the South Staffs 5th/6th Bm and the North Staffs 5th Bns were both wearing the 'old' pattern badges. So with the battalions' disbandments in 1967, the anodised single knot 'anodised' badge must be 1968-69. Chris Marsh has provided the letter dated 1969 declining to approve the badge so that gives a window of a couple of years for its use.

It does however raise a question mark over the photo of the NStaffs bn wearing this badge on the way to the Isle of Man ferry. Was BD still a thing in the TA in 1969?

I really dont know. It wouldnt suprise me if it was but i cant say yes or no.
Looking at the video clip,the first inline would appear at a guess be Staffordshire Yeomanry,he certainly has a different coloured collar.
The South Staffs.are next,looks like the cap badges are crowned.
Finally the two Officers from the North Staffs.

The other oddity is that 1968 saw the cancellation of summer camps so for the company to be parading in BD to go on a summer camp to the Isle of Man would make it 1969 or 1970 which is asking a lot. Perhaps I am being sceptical but I wonder if the photo is legit?
