Hi, to me , it looks as though the crown has been added to the cross, maybe the badge had a vic crown when it was first used.

Its a Maltese cross to the centre but never seen one with a crown superimposed. The crown looks to have been added on. If you look closely behind the crown you can see what could be a double circlet. Below the base of the crown and also behind the voids to the top of the crown. It looks very similar to an officers pattern Leeds Rifles badge. It is not though as the Leeds Rifles lions are all going anticlockwise round the centre and the battle honours to the top element of the cross are absent. Another Option may be an other ranks 7th or 8th OR badge that has been had the wreath removed. The OR badge has no battle honours but also strangely differs from the officers badge with the upper lions facing up and the lower lions facing down?!? Seeding to the cross does not look correct though! Strange badge

kind regards, Dave

Dear all,

Further images of badge one piece construction appears gilded at one time from the back of the badge so constructed this way not an adapted item of insignia.

Probably colonial but does have a rifles feel to it as mentioned above

Regards

Stephen

The crown still appears to be sweated onto the cross. If it had been one piece, we would have seen the rear of the crown in the reverse shot.

Also the badge has lugs, so I am thinking this is a collar badge that has been married to the pouch. As to why the marriage, I cannot say.

Thank you everyone I will pass comments on to my pall,

From the back as pointed out crown is not visible however Center appears plain?
And would be mirrored on the front?

Odd, one would expect an item to be added to the plain part hence the Crown perhaps!

so I still wonder as to what the back plate is if the crown is an add on as it appears

A strange badge worthy of further investigation as it is not one of the regular repros that keeps appearing on the market I am sure we would have noticed this design before.

I thought it strange but worthy of seeking advice here, the pouch certainly has an age to it as does the badge itself clear from the images unfortunately I have not been able to handle the badge.

I hadn’t noticed loops instead of screw post usually expected on a pouch but loops do appear to be long type!

Regards and thanks

Stephen
