Hello Iain,
I think this thread has started to wander off in a different direction with all this talk of crowns, have you got any of these badges in your own collection? the Kimberley Regt for example, has always been a favourite of mine.
Regards Frank

Hi Frank,

we already were off topic with the Kimberley regt, or shall we say deviated as the post was originally about the sequence for pre WWI Infantry regts but not serious.
I did see the deviation with the Kimberley Regt coming and wanted to suggest we started a separate post.
Someone, I think Brian C, suggested a long time ago about going through the different SA regts on maybe a monthly basis.
We can if you like start back on a new post with the Kimberley regt and I'll put up my pitiful few
We wont talk crowns, not even QV's little crown

regards, Iain

Hi South African members,
Considering the above lineage, why is there a Diamond Fields Horse badge with a King's Crown?
Thanks, John

I would have thought that a separate identity was kept for some time as far as the wearing of the actual badges went.

Thanks, Frank. That would explain it.

I think from memory there were four or five differing badges made, interestingly, that is one of the very few examples of a badge from that period that I have had, which appears to have actually been worn.
They were made here, in common with the rest of the various plates and badges, which do turn up here from time to time, but, whilst perfectly original, they tend to be "out of the box" and unworn.

According to Tylden DFH was merged with Kimberley Rifles in 1899 but continued as DFH till 1902 when amalgamation took place. So that probably would account for the KC badges been produced.
