Default Army Ordnance Corps - but what?

I picked this one up in Bangor the other week, but held back from sending it for repair as I wasn't entirely sure what it was.
There is no evidence of a slider, and not too sure if it may have been bronze at one stage and had blades or it may have been a collar and had lugs.
The metal seem a bit finer than other badges of the same period. I don't think its a repro of any kind, but interested to see opinions.
I have pictured it beside a later RAOC O/R's badge, purely for size comparison.

They were worn by AOC Armament Inspectors when in Mufti who worked in the 'Home Front' Arms Factories on up to a years secondment.

Note: Ordnance Armourers & Artificers did not become part of REME till its formation in 1942!

They were indeed localy modified from lugged coller badges, and you can even find them with the cannons pointing the other way, and also with the single word 'ORDNANCE' for officers.

Thanks very much for that Mike! I wouldn't have even considered that option, but delighted to find that out. The pin stays!
