Real & Fake Canadian OSONS Patches
Hello to all. I know that showing anything Fake or passing for the
Real Deal on this site, sets the alarm-bells ringing. I heard many get a bad rash, no worries so do I! Especially on EvilBay so many Knock-offs, Repo being passed for the real item. I found a few fake ones in my time and willing to share. I find them sometimes interesting especially if the real one can't be found or $2.00cdn, but to pass an item of as the real one when It's not, sacrilege and blasphemy. The pictures shows 4 different styles can you identify the real one or ones? Last edited by Recce; 22-08-10 at 05:26 PM. |

Hi Recce, Not sure what the term "real" means? Does it mean officially authorized? From that perspective, the only "official" patch in the image is the jump smock one, the one in the upper right corner. The remainder, variations of "combat" dress are all unofficial. It is interesting to see the variety of quality in which the "combat" SSF patches are found.
The other officially authorized patch was the DEU pattern, which didn't have a merrowed edge, and was embroidered on CF green background. Last edited by Bill A; 30-09-09 at 11:56 PM. |

Like in the Picture I posted Completely in combat Subdued, The real Deal. Ask any body from the CDN Airborne Regiment. The one's with the Black Sword 2 picture are the copy or fake. Those that have Evolved will sooner or later run out of Ammo! And will be at the Mercy of those who carry as Back-up a 34" Wakizashi Warrior Blade! Last edited by Recce; 22-08-10 at 05:24 PM. |

During my years posted to Petawawa, the only "OSONS" patches that I ever saw being worn were the melton type (for the old CF tunic and the later DEU tunic) and the "coloured" with merrowed edge that was only ever worn on the "SSF Smock". These badges were worn by all members of the Special Service Force, not just the Canadian Airborne Regiment.

Hi sailorbear, the motto "OSONS" is in french and means (roughly translated) "LET US DARE".

In french used as ,,,nous osons croire,,,=Lets Us dare to believe! Now the Motto EX-COELIS is = Out Of The Clouds. Regimental affiliations: 1 Commando with the Royal 22e Régiment, 2 Commando with Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, and 3 Commando with The Royal Canadian Regiment. OK Now to all BCWBF Members I will have info in a few hours concerning the Patch in question. Like I stated I was with many X Airborne on Remembrance Day and all remember the Patch in Question. I was so many times In Petawawa from 77-82+ and I never saw one. Until I saw it on someones Jump-Smock Many years ago. Last edited by Recce; 19-11-09 at 04:51 PM. |

During my five years in Petawawa, I never saw the "completely subdued" osons patch worn. I have seen them show up at militaria shows where they were being sold by the people who made them.
Also, I did not see them in the unit kit shops in Petawawa. There was a surplus store in Pembroke that use to sell all sorts of things of questionable origin. Phil |

Sir this Patch is the Real Deal, I have no time for playing games on this site I can assure you Plus two X Airborne did not pay $50. for a fake, what years did you serve, 1st, 2nd or ? yes I know of the surplus store, was next to the abandoned Rail way station or on that road. This patch is real from 1980. Two X Sargent's as a MWO, from The Airborne Regiment on remembrance day told me they had one on their Jump-Smock they were introduced temporally and then shelved, theres also a member on this site which I can't remember his name right now that can confirm this, and they came with a set of Jump-Wings Completely in Subdued green which many think there also not real. Look at the picture I attached these are the wings Sorry for the moment I will not show the complete wings and I have my reasons. And just in case No not Rigger wings. No the Kite shop never sold these nor the wings. Sorry I removed the Pictures. Last edited by Recce; 23-08-10 at 01:41 PM. |

Recce,
If you say so. Regarding any Canadian airborne/parachute badges, I would suggest referring to: Grimshaw, Louis E., The Badges and Insignia of the Canadian Airborne Forces, 1981. Phil. Last edited by Phillip Herring; 23-08-10 at 12:49 AM. |
