M.R.A. any thoughts please?
This may not be military but does anyone have any thoughts on what M.R.A. might be? I have googled it to no avail. The shape of the badge is reminiscent of the Australian Rising Sun badge but I think that is coincidental.

I think that the Ministry of Rural Affairs is a fairly recent organisation and this has some age to it. It was purchased in Worcestershire and therefore the M might stand for Midlands. R could be Rifle, Rowing, Railway but I would have expected to see a rifle or an oar in the design. I imagine that the A is for association.

A shot in the proverbial dark: Midlands Rose Association.

Brian,
many thanks for this but no joy I am afraid. I was hoping that it might be the something Regimental Association or at least the Mexican Republican Army. I see where you got the Rose idea from though. The tankard was made by T. G. Green & Co Ltd of Church Gresley in Derbyshire and the back stamp dates it from the late 1930s to the 1950s. Simon. |

I have seen old newspaper references to the formation of a Military Rifle Association in Australia.
It seems the association was formed in about 1903 and It appears that it was still active at least until 1923 as there are newspaper reports of the scores obtained at a Military Rifle Association Northern Districts meeting on that date. That could possibly account for the image resembling the Rising Sun but I don't know about the rose. Last edited by Donny B.; 17-02-16 at 10:41 AM. |
