Default 18th Hussars - Expensive Fakes or Just Poorly Made Badges?

Having browsed some On-line lists, I am begining to think some dealers need to watch the Forum a little more? Here are some examples of 18th Hussars badges in my own collection.

The first is c.1905-10, KK 787, an Officers pattern, this one in gilt although it has lost it's lustre.

The second the ORs 1905-10 pattern KK 787 in Gilding metal, which I'm fairly certain is genuine. K&K states this was on Officers only pattern, however this is quite clearly? An ORs slidered badge.

Lastly what I believe to be two "Ring Dingers" or Fakes. Although they are of the earlier 1904-05 KK786 pattern and a very scarce badge (Without "Own" on the lower right base scroll as viewed). They are not a patch on the ORs badge KK787 above. My reasons for suspecting them to be fake are the spindly XVIII numerals and "H" and the poor quality of lettering around the circlet in particular the "O's" which appear to be smaller than the other letters. The crowns are also rather second rate when it comes to detail. Going back to the central area upon which the XVIII H is mounted, the "Fakes" (?) appear to have a narrower (12mm wide) and exaggerated domed effect whereas the genuine example I have is flatter and a touch wider (13mm).

I know which of the 4 badges shown that I be prepared to shell out for and it's neither of the two shown side by side! Does anyone have a genuine KK786 they could show?

Andy

Andy,
Every single one that I have seen has always looked dodgy. I have some of the others but not that one.

I wouldn't buy or sell either or those two.

I've only had a few of these over time but the quality of the originals shines through immediately - they are the typically crisp specimens you would expect of the period!
