Ray,
Another nice badge, both regular battalions served in India pre WW2, rather than being converted as a sweetheart with the pin I think it may have been worn on a Pagri
Keep them coming!!

Three Helmet Plate Centres, One has been converted to a Cap Badge, Would there be a reason for this?

Hi Ray,
All are pre 1905/6, the VB one I'm sure you know looks like it has had a repair on the loops, some of these had their fixings altered for wear in the Glengarry Cap though some were made with 2 lug fittings for that purpose, I will post later when at home the rear of my unaltered VB one with 2 lugs.
With the third along I have not came across one physically or in images which has had its laurel wreaths removed, it seems to have had the addition of a knotted ribbon at 6o'clock I could guess at Band,Ensign or Mess Servant, a bit large for a sweetheart but hopefully someone else who has an interest in the Border Regt may have an idea. I will look through some images books etc I have to see if I can spot something similar and get back to you if I find anything.
With regard to the Militia/VB type badge in post #5 I remembered there is a video from a collector on the Internet. If you search '3rd Bn Border Regt Badge YouTube' you should find it along with a series of videos he has made, I will leave it to your own and anyone else's judgement but the 3rd training Bn is not something I'm aware of. There are some nice badges on some of the videos though.
Paul

Default HPC's / Glengarry badges

Hi Ray,
Attached are a few of the HPC design type badges,
The one on the Helmet plate is pre 1905/6 but would not look out of place on a QVC HP but it came on the KC plate so I'm happy to keep it on there.
The HPC seems to have been a design for multi use, you will notice the slidered example for use on the Pagri of the Foreign Service Helmet. The HPC type Pagri badges do not seem to have been popular with many Regt's preferring Cloth with a smaller badge or metal Shoulder Title attached or an embroidered cloth.
The two Offrs Badges (2nd VB and Militia) both of the same design as their HPC but made with two original fixings lugs and not the usual 3 Loops for Glengarry wear. I think unlike some of the other Line Regt HPC's which had a raised edge making the loop fixings shorter and more comfortable when attached with a backing plate for wear in the Glengarry it would be impractical for the Borders type whence the conversions of lug fixings found on them.
For interest I have included a Militia Cap Badge because it is the same voided design of the HPC, I don't think this was worn on the FSC or Glengarry and though not an Officers badge think it may have been worn on the Peaked Forage Cap by a SNCO

The badge should have pointy faces pyramid shapes on the arms. Common fakes have flat faced not pointy fronts. I hope that is clear.

I think this is what Alan means, the best I could do I'm afraid but I did have a problem getting a good definition on the whole badge even when blowing it up so it may be ok.
Collars are great and nice to see a pair of titles too!

Not for the bin at all Ray,
I struggled to get definition on the whole of my badge and had to put a small section of it on a black background, the lugged badges are a bit scarcer but I like the solder on yours. The light when taking images can play a few tricks.

Ray,
Another nice set, a strange phenomenon with the 5th Bn cap badges to me anyway, is that most of them I see the slider is usually offset from the centre of the badge.
One of the collars looks a bit tarnished , they are a good pair, but if you cleaned it you would probably take off the nice patina on the lugs.
I know someone who is enjoying this thread and think he is wandering if you have any Shoulder Titles to show.
Cheers
Paul
