Post war SAS beret badge
Was there anything special about this, I thought it was a standard 60's/70's/80's example that normally sells for around 20 or £25?

beret badge
Cant believe the price the beret badge went for, as Jon says, nothing special, quite common 80's beret badge which go for between 10 and 20 quid, ludicrous

It is strange that people don't learn about these things before spending that kind of money. There was a nice 1944 pattern badge probably post war that sold quite reasonably for £63 just before this one.

A number of red flags on this one if anyone was looking at it?

To be honest Irv I thought it looked ok. That's why I'm wary of bidding these days
What are the major combat indicators that it's a knock up? Jon |

Shouldn't there be a line above the makers name on a Supak beret from 1943, could have worn off I suppose?
The WD year code should be N which if that is a letter N is correct. The beret badge badge could be 1944 pattern but it also looks a bit like the early 21 SAS badges although they were are little more blue but it could have faded. Unsure about it. Jack. |

There is not one correct marking to it and even the stitching around the inside brim of the beret is wrong the potato sack stitching started on berets around late 45 with certain makers how ever surpak was not one of them Above surpaks name would have been as stated a white line the date would appear just above 1 letter space with the White line smack bang in the midle if that the size of the beret with a WD arrow above that below the makers stamp would be the date . A good point to note here is that the potato sack stitching was being used on WWII uniforms during the war and is not just a post war style stitch STEVE |

As I brought it up I think I should point out the bits I didn't like about it.
I may be put in my place but all the Supak berets I have seen have had the acceptance stamp in the crown of the beret usually beside the makers stamp. Also the stitched square surrounding the makers stamp is too big. This one has the stitched squares that you would usually see on a Kangol? I've attached a picture to show what I mean. Regards Irv |

What you have stated is very much correct the only bit that's wrong is the beret on eBay is not a Kangol wear ltd example as their stitched diamonds is done completely different .please take a look at the thread I started which I am about 2/3 through on WWII BERETS in the war relics forum in the allies cloth head dress section Have a happy CHRISTMASS guys and best regards for the day Steve Last edited by ASR142; 24-12-14 at 07:13 PM. |

Hey guys,
I'll have to say I think you're both wrong on this one. For starters the beret isn't a Supak, it's a British Beret Basque example which has just been misdescribed by the seller. Secondly for a British Beret Basque example it looks spot on. I couldn't guarantee whether the cap badge is original to the beret however. Jack |
