Brian,
A nice looking badge, but the Coronation bit seems rather "Romantic"? Do have any info to support this theory?

Andy

I don't know what the Regular SAS wore for the coronation but the metal badges were worn by the TA Regts until replaced by a/a. Whilst 22 are/were wedded to the beret in SD and No 1s, peaked No 1 dress caps were certainly worn by 21 SAS in Blues in the 50's and 60's . There are a number of regtl pictures that show this.

Default beret badge

Hi Andy
I was reliably informed that this badge is quite scarce, only produced and worn i think for the coronation by other ranks on the maroon beret, The silver and gilt with loops variation produced for the NO1 cap. I have been told there may be a picture in Ospreys publication - the special air service. There was one sold recently on the new badge site ( regimental badges ), think it sold for 130.00 or maybe more, got this off ebay for a fraction of the price, so happy days.
cheers
Brian

Hi Brian,

Is it only the Gaunt London examples that are correct?

Cheers,
Jack

I do not normally look at Special Forces as the prices are so over-priced!

Was this not an Officers version?

It is also likely that the GM/S version with Slider was produced in the late 40's than in 1953 for the Coronation?

There a lot of special 'coronation' items supposedly made for the event that are now for sale by some dealers. Such claims are best taken with a pinch of salt. The SAS may well have worn the badge on maroon berets for the event and I can't prove it either way. The badge is correct but I would not pay over the odds as as I have said they were in general use by the TA.

Default Worn inMalaya for Coronation

There is a photo of a metal cap badge being worn in Malaya as it appeared in the Kuala lumpa times.
I've also spoken to a guy who remembers being given one to wear.
