I'm unconvinced and I have never seen any info to back some opinions that Brit metal SAS insignia was worn by RhSAS. Also never seen any evidence that the SAS insignia was made anywhere other than Rhodesia.
I'm looking forward to seeing it whenever someone produces it.

Default collars

Hi Dave
Youre right, lots of kit came from the UK. Wondering if youve ever come across this type of collar before?? heard from a few sources that they were made in SA for the Rhodesians. Stamped SILVER on the reverse.
cheers
Brian

Believe what you may but I have seen no evidence that any of the SAS badges were made in South Africa and no, not all of the badges for the security forces were made in the UK in the 60's. Only evidence I have seen is some BSAP badges were made in South Africa for an extremely short period and then stopped because apparently (read apparently) the Rhodesians were not pleased with the finished result.

Default collars

Hi Peter
the subject on these particular collars has been ongoing now for some time mate as you know, I myself would still love to get proof that they were made in SA, but sometimes its not possible and we have to go by what is passed onto us.
What I can say is, I know of a handful of die hard sas collectors who have these in their collections and have informed me of the same story? SA made. I told you a while back about the 2 x pairs I sold to a known SA collector ( hoping to get a pair back which didnt happen ), he has a pair in his collection and a pair was sold to another SA collector who apparently had been searching for them for 10+ years I beleive???, all saying the same thing SA made?? guess its one of those things that either needs verified or it will be stuck in limbo, who knows.

While were on the subject of rhodesian sas badges, think its strange how the rhodesian sas website is showing uk beret badges/no 1 dress badges under there insignia page??

cheers
Brian

When these first appeared on ebay the SA collector who you refer to told me in an email that he had never seen them or heard of this type in 35 years of collecting. He has obviously decided for whatever reason to buy two sets.

And yes we've had these discussions before on these types of collar badges. What we as collectors have to be careful of is deciding what information is correct when there is no documented or verbal proof from the people that were there that an item is period genuine and how it came about. And because of what happened to the country it is difficult to find written or photographic verification, if at all it existed and to what amount.

On the subject of Marco and Craig's website on the RhSAS I have no idea. Would be best to ask one of them.
