In Afghanistan, some Canadian personnel on the Provincial Reconstruction Teams wore a small pin with the Afghan and Canadian flags? These were clutch back? And they wree worn on the PRT patches?

Exactly. I understand they fell off easily.

Hi Bill

Yes, they were clutch back and yes, they were worn as Ed's photo suggests; pinned through the cloth badge.

Ed's pic is the same as the example in the 8CH Museum Sussex NB that was donated by a Regt'l Member after his tour in 2007.

regards
Darrell

But not all PRT personnel wore the flag pin on the patch?

Not all wore the pin Bill. I am not certain if the troops had to purchase these pins, but civilians had to buy ours from the Canex at New Canada House or the 'SEACAN' on the boardwalk.

The year also matters, there were no PRT patches when I was there in 2006. We were very limited to what we could wear as insignia. It was before ISAF patches, and all we were allowed to wear was the 1 inch IR patches, and the large IR Canadian flags.

These sort of badges seem to be a common thing nowadays, kind of souvenir badges, you find various flag combinations. Presumably unofficial. One I have is the UN flag with the East Timorese, another the Union flag with East Timorese, given to UK police by the British Consul in ET.
