3 Canadian Infantry Dvision formation patch
A July 1941 memo from the A.A. & C.M.G. 3 Canadian Infantry Division to division units indicated the formation patch was to be French Blue. Exactly what colour this was is not clear, but the Canadian formation patches frequently seen with the imposed corps abbreviations are more blue than gray. They are often confused with 2 CID patches.

It's a wonder the modern Canadian Army managed to choose a colour for the 3rd Division patch at all. Normally it would have taken years of debates, briefing notes and PowerPoint presentations to define something so vaguely established at its origin.
Personally, I think the Patricias had something to do with ramming it through, and also the renaming of Western Area to 3rd Division which, incidentally, gives them boith their jam label shoulder title and their orginal division patch back for their Centennial. Well played VP!

Even among the Picklies there is a debate as to the correct colour of "French Grey". All 3 battalions use a different colour, and as the years have gone by you can see the facing colours on uniforms switch from "bleu horizon" (french grey); a very blue colour, to the washed out battleship grey they use now. I know for a fact it was the Picklies who insisted that they be part of 3 Div now, even though they spent more time with 1 Div. I knew a Regimental Major who commented that the colour of the Div patch on Hamilton Gault's WW1 uniform was the wrong colour!
