Ticker Riley’s excellent research here https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...2&postcount=13 shows War Office contracts awarded to them on the following dates:
J. W. Tiptaft & Son Ltd, 55/6 Northampton St, Birmingham October 1915 February, May & August 1916 July 1918 Whether the Rising Sun badge order would’ve been placed by the WO is another matter but nonetheless I think the dates are likely a good barometer of when orders began to be placed with them. |

Potentially the Australian and Canadian governments may have independently placed orders with Tiptaft before October 1915 but this would require research to confirm or allay.
If memory serves the Gallipoli campaign ended in January 1916 so if the October 1915 order did include Rising Suns that wouldn’t leave much time to get them out there, not impossible but unlikely I’d say. Others will hopefully have more information on these. |

As far as I know the last Diggers left Anzac on or about 20th December 1915, certainly not in 1916. Regards Phil. Last edited by Lancer 17; 13-08-20 at 02:46 AM. |

In all honestly anybody could say anything on EBay and they frequently do lots take it at face value in all honesty that badge could have come from my back garden. Some good evidence that it never went to Turkey.

hi all
a photo from the collection of photos that Capt Craig took on his service at Gallipoli and France. the bottom caption reads, Order of Evacuation of ANZAC No 1a party 6th Brigade December 18th 1915. he was one of the last to leave the badge in question is a good one, but wouldnt have been worn at Gallipoli before 1919 as has already been said bc |

The listing simply states that it was "found by my Dad when we visited Gallipoli in 1986" , which could very well be true.
The posts in this thread appear to show that it couldn't have been worn during the Gallipoli campaign but is there a 'possibility' that it was worn (and lost) by a veteran/relative during a later pilgrimage to the battle sites ? So , it could actually have been found at Gallipoli ........ or the seller was using the connection as a way to make money ! .
