Identification help please
Can anyone suggest which regiment this officer is serving with?
The photo probably dates to around 1880/1890, the cross belt and whistle suggesting a rifles connection. I have enlarged the cross belt badge as much as possible. All thoughts greatly appreciated. Jon |

The tunic and spiked helmet suggest an Indian Army infantry unit.

Judging from the shoulder badge there may be a Dhow as part of the central device. Given that shoulder plate badges usually differ from helmet badges it might be the 9th Madras Native Infantry.
https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...ctureid=162906 I will check my books to see if I can find a picture of their uniform. |
