Default 1943 Kangol commando beret

This beret recently sold on ebay for 419 GBP:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/266607705384

The stampings are quite good but the number 3 is not correct in my opinion. Also, the machine stitched thread around the inside is typical for berets from the fifties and onwards. It is not found on wartime berets.

Is that a removed date next to the size?

A similar one from a dealer site :

Quote:
Very scarce 1943 dated British Commando beret in very good condition. Maker marked Kangol Wear Limited, dated 1943 in size 6 5/8. The beret is WD marked with letter N what indicates the date 1943

No, on Kangol berets the date is always found underneath the broad arrow. But I see what you mean, it does seem to show an area with an unusual amount of wear.

It is not from 1953 either, Kangol did have a contract for commando berets in that year but their stampings had changed in 1950.

The one from JM militaria appears to be correct.

Default 1954 dated Kangol RM CDO Beret with markings

Hi team

With referance to what Luc mentioned here is my 1954 dated beret with Stamping for referance.

Note the inside diamonds are stitched if that means anything?

I posted below

This isn't my area, but the obvious thing that sticks out to me is the two types of number three used. I.e. one with a round top (under discussion) and one (for the size) that is flat topped. Was this usual? The three also looks slightly larger than the rest of the date, but that could be my eyes!

Kind Regards,

Pete

The round top , slightly larger three is the same as the one on on the Commando beret on the dealer site I posted .

Phill, the diamonds are stitched and stamped. The stitching can be particularly wonky.

Pete the 2 different types of number 3 are fine. I have not been able to find such, differences with other manufacturers. It seems to be typical for Kangol.
