Royal Scots Officer Anodized Cap Badge - Was it really worn?
Hello,
I am looking for some expert advice on the Anodized Royal Scots Officer badge. I have read it was worn on the Glengarry, and have seen pictures of RS veterans wearing it this way. However, the majority of Scottish Regiment officer badges I have seen are silver. Did RS officers wear a staybrite badge post war? According to Bloomer, the officer badge was reissued in 1968. The construction is pretty modern and I have been told it is likely from just before the amalgamation. I apologize for the pics being sideways. Working on getting that corrected. Is it anodised aluminium? More likely a modern issue in 'plated' metal'.
This was the last issue before formation of the Royal Regiment of Scotland in 2006. Shown in JSP768 - I have the example below. In all probability Royal Scots officers would have worn a 'proper' silver badge often handed down from father to son. Tim

You are absolutely right. It does seem to be silver plated, showing some patina. I did not pay very much for it (£10.00), so I thought it might be a staybrite aluminum badge.
I try to do my own research before I bother the forum, but could not find any photos to confirm this version being worn on the glengarry in pre-2006 official photos. I did see it possibly worn by RS veterans during Remembrance Day parades, but those might have been, as you said, silver handed down versions. The image showing the NSN and cost was really valuable. Thank you very much for your help. It is very much appreciated! Last edited by Reid10; 28-01-21 at 05:28 PM. |
