Ox & Bucks WWII cap badge
I have seen what looks to be like a gilding metal light infantry shoulder title being offered as an other ranks Ox & Bucks WWII cap badge, this example has three loops which to me screams shoulder title.
Now I know John Howard wore a small white metal bugle as a beret badge, but is there any evidence that other ranks wore small gilding metal bugles as cap badges? Rob |

"The Lightbobs" site gives detail of the use of shoulder titles as badges on headgear (silvered at regimental expense as I recall).
For some reason although I can access the site I can't access the page that gives the information on badges. http://www.lightbobs.com/oxfordshire...-infantry.html |

Ta, there should also be details of the arrangements made to have the s/t bugles silvered.
For some reason those pages aren't working for me. Aha - and the answer appears above - it's like magic. |

Ox & Bucks WWII cap badge
Many thanks for the replies chaps, as I understand it the small shoulder title bugles in gilding metal were to be silvered at unit expense.
This all makes sense as the normal Ox & Bucks cap badge was far too large for a beret, but were gilding metal titles worn? If so, I have a lot of Ox & Bucks WWII cap badges. Rob Last edited by Sonofacqms; 17-05-20 at 09:04 PM. |

Here's a close up of Major Howard's beret at the Pegasus Museum. It does not appear to be silverplated to me.

As an officers badge it might well be solid silver. The soldiers ones were nickel plated.
