147th Bn variant cap badge
I picked this up recently off EBAY as I was fairly certain that it was the variant cap badge to the 147th Bn. Though it is not listed in Charlton, it is shown in Charles H. Stewarts "Overseas", as well as J.H.Harper's " A Source of Pride". I am not certain how rare they are or if they were even used, Harper states that a veteran of the Bn had never seen it in use and theorized it was likely that one of the manufacturer's had made some examples which were not purchased by the Bn. My guess because of the pickled finish and specifically because of the types of lugs is that this was made by Helmsleys.

This variation seems to come up on a somewhat regular basis, though I wouldn't say it is common by any means. There are also matching collar badges.

Having spent some time researching the 147th, I can also say I have never seen this pattern in contemporary photos.
