Ludlow
Having read all posts here with interest, I would like to ask for your opinion on this badge.
Regards, Albert.

Firstly, is it hall marked silver, the markings on the right are indistinct.

Rob,
I think the marking on the right says LONDON Regards, Albert

The rose which is fixed to the shaft of the spear appears off centre, perhaps it has had a knock or poor workmanship.

[QUOTE=appie_b;539405]Rob,
I think the marking on the right says LONDON Regards, Albert[/QUOTE I think it may be LUDLOW not London. I believe this to be an officers item due to better materials. I have a bronze recce on lugs (may be a collar) with a white rose pinned through in a similar way. Dave

I think they were all made in the field individually by hand so you would expect some imperfections.

The white metal rose as I understand was worn from the days of the Great War as part of the Divisional insignia. The 49th Div. RECCE was formed in 1942 and did not serve overseas until June 1944 giving plenty of time to add roses to their white metal RECCE corps badges.
Some may well have been made "in the Field", but I doubt whether adding a rose to a cap badge which was unofficial anyway was a pressing matter for someone whose job it was to seek out the enemy formations. Rob |

I don't think that I've ever seen such a badge by that particular manufacturer with a complete set of hallmarks.

A superb and scarce example and unusual in that it has plated lugs.

Here is a better picture of the right mark, it says LONDON.

Frank, Thanks for the tumbs up, got a bit worried when reading some posts here about the two piece construction.
Regards, Albert ( he's back in the frame with his other 49 west riding friends.)
