F/Sgt BUCKERFIELD'S HALF WING. Help requested.
Dear Forum ,
This observer came with a few photographs of the original owner and a couple of letters dated 1943 sent from England to his father in Gravenhurst , Ontario. In spite of all my efforts I have not been able to find further details about Edward Buckerfield's life & military career... Can you help ? Thank you , Dominique

Very nice little group, I would think assuming he was not a casualty, his service papers would not be available, the Library and Archives Canada would be a good starting point.

Hi
I don't normally do research in Air Force types but have some experience just looking for threads on the web that lead to answers. His un-redacted file is available to you from Library and Archives Canada upon request if you can prove he's been dead more than 20 years. Photo of a grave works. Obituary or notice of death too. There were no Buckerfields who died in service so you need to prove he has passed. http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/transpa...les.aspx#tab2a You may be aware the Buckerfield's of Vancouver were a prosperous family but I did not see an Edward. Although not a member, Ancestry's preview page show a Veteran's gave to an Edward H. Buckerfield. A stretch but if you're ever near Ullswater (between Bracebridge and Parry Sound) Ontario, stop and check the stone. https://www.ancestry.com/search/coll...AAERQjBViA-61- There is a 419 Sqn RCAF mention of him as LAC E.H. Buckerfield in a photo of one of their DFC winning Navigators, ANGUS, F/O Arthur George (J22435) then also a LAC. Fellow recruits? http://www.419squadron.com/DFC1.html Good luck. regards Darrell

Hi Dominique
It would appear a Cdn soldier named Buckerfield also served in the First World War. He was from Birch Falls/Parry Sound, Ontario which is near the grave (Ullswater) and the Father (is that "E.W. Buckerfield" on the envelope?) who received the letter (Gravenhurst). Ernest William Buckerfield was born in 1893. He was a Salesman when he enlisted, His Mother was Emily in Parry Sound. Served the War in the Canadian Army Service Corps being wounded, having Typhoid fever and Influenza as well as earning A Military Medal for Gallantry. London Gazette 31173-11-2-19 Maybe the Buckerfields and the one you seek were from that area? Ernest's service file is freely available here: http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discove...IdNumber=73600 Your best bet is to request Edward Buckerfield's WW2 file from LAC. Without proof of death, it will be redacted for personal info but you may glean more info as to service. regards Darrell
