Button-Possably artillery?
Hello.
I dug this up metal detecting on a farm in South Africa where I've found a generic Victorian Rifle Regiment button and some Martini-Henry bullets. The button is in bad shape but has 2 crossed cannons on the front and is heavily domed in shape. I would like to know approximate time frame for this button as well please? Thanks in advance. Does it have a slightly hollow back?
Its size is 20 mm? |

Yes, it's about 20mm and seems to be hollow to about half of the dome. It has a fairly thick edge of around 1mm.

It is an Other Ranks Artillery button made for the Dutch Army.
They were used 1860s - 1910s. |

Possibly used by a Boer artillery unit?

Thanks so much for the info. The Boer war connection is the most plausible as I have also found an American Great Seal button here however we are nowhere near any known Boer war sites. I'll see what else I can dig up that could help get to the bottom of this mystery.
Thanks again guys. |

For Your information...…
Sergeant Major Christiaan Georg Snyman, Staatsartillerie of the Transvaal..... A Photo of the full uniform worn by Snyman with a closeup of the buttons (best I can do)..... Also there was an American Volunteer (ex-U.S. Army) Unit that fought with the Boers..... Mike
