Middlesex Regiment strange scroll
Hi,
I have had this badge for a while now and it has always puzzled me . If you look closely at the ALBUHERA scroll, you might just be able, from the pictures, to make out that this has been stamped from a separate piece and applied over the original SOUTH AFRICA 1900-02 scroll. Can anyone shed any light on to this? Again thanks in advance, Andy Last edited by Nozzer; 16-02-18 at 10:39 PM. |

I have seen these before. An old TF die has been re-used by a maker to produce regular bn badges. presumably circa 1917 when the TF were no longer ordered.

Hi Andy.
I like that, and strangely it's the first I've seen that way round. Here's a couple the other way: SA scroll over Albuhera for 7th/8th/9th Battalions. W/m (Probable) Senior NCOs on lugs and OSD on lugs, but believed to have been worn as a cap badge. Attachment 51409 Attachment 51410 Regards Brian |

many thanks for your reply. I would be interested to know when this practice took place, bearing in mind that by 1917 both regular middlesex and 7th, 8th & 9th battalions badges are being issued in all brass and so I would expect all bi metal stocks to have been exhausted (If I am wrong please correct me ). I also have seen this badge before in a friends collection and he claimed it to be rare, but perhaps it isn't after all!!!!!! When did the 7th, 8th & 9th stop wearing the their unique badge? Andy |

Many thanks. I don't seem to be able to see your pictures. I see that you are from Herts as well. Andy |

Hi Andy.
They should be there if you click onto the attachment number. If not, here they are: DSC00172.jpg DSC00173.jpg And yes, from Hertfordshire. Whereabouts are you? Regards Brian |
