Help with mystery Scottish Tartan PTI Badge?
Hi Guys
I picked up this badge this morning and am I right in assuming it's a PTI badge and am wondering if anyone can help with the Tartan backing and what uniform it may have been worn on with the red backing. There a 3 holes in the badge and is there something missing or was this how it was attached. Also am I right in it being a Kings Crown and there for pre 1952. Any help or advice very much welcome. Thanks Rob |

Hi Rob,
Looks like Douglas tartan behind the APTC badge, could be something to do with the Cameronians. Maybe an attached PTI or something. Just a thought, Regards, Bill

Thanks for your thoughts, I saw it in a box of bits this morning and had to buy it as I'd never seen anything like it before and I tought for a £1 the APTC badge was worth it on it's own if not attached to the tartan backing. I shall now see if I can find anything on the net with a Cameronians link. Cheers Rob |

Well after hours searching the internet I'm none the wiser with this badge and am really hoping someone on the forum can help me, I'd love to know what this badge is.

Rob,
I would think it has, as suggested, been put together by a PTI with a Cameronian or Clan Douglas connection and probably as a Blazer pocket badge - typically worn at the Highland Games. The design follows closely the APTC PTI vest and track suit badges. Tim

Thanks for your help and the photos, I am still wondering why there are 3 holes in the badge. I think it's a great looking badge. Cheers Rob |

I hadn't thought about it being the swordsmans badge, I wonder if anyone else on the forum knows. Cheers Rob |

APTC
Rob,
Can you provide measurements of the crossed swords badge? This is an APTC Officer's and Warrant Officer's Beret Badge with QC. It is a largish badge and measures 50mm wide across the sword hilts. Your KC version could be an earlier version? The Swordsman badge would be more like 70mm across the hilts. Of course the APTC badge is based on the "Swordsman" badge! Tim

Yes it measure 50mm across the hilts, so maybe that's what it is and just wonder why someone would have sewn it onto this backing. By the stitching I would guess it's been on there a while. Thanks again for your help Rob |
