Assistant parachute jump instructor (APJI) is an Army designation and they wore arm badges and not flying badges.

It's now three years since I originally posted this: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...ad.php?t=60880 Just wondering whether anyone has any new information or ideas please? I still haven't seen another example. Many thanks, Graham

Ray,
So far can’t seem to find similar details for the Imagery Analyst. I can tell you that it is/was worn by an Intelligence Corps Warrant Officer. Tim

A ‘Joint Service’ badge which may explain why its hard to find details in the various available publications. This picture from the Formation Sign No 240 of 2010.

Thanks for all your effort, as you suggest I suspect its listed somewhere in a Tri- Service Badge Section, if one exists? Cheers Ray |

As the badge was never authorised in the normal way (Royal Assent) it may have been a local purchase item, especially as the number awarded is small.

RAF FLYING BADGES
Dave,
The Gospel according to Jefford (Navigator Extraordinaire) states that he doubts that any of the following aircrew badges have received Royal Assent: QM ,LM, FC,AT, WSO and IA. Nevertheless I think it highly unlikely, that after qualifying, the RAF sent other ranks out to purchase their own flying insignia. I think it more probable that the IA badge is listed in some obscure place in a Service Publication, due to its tri-service use (the first one of its kind I believe). Ray |

Ray you misunderstand what I meant by local purchase. There was a facility for the station to obtain some items through the stores system under "local purchase", due to its low use or specialist nature. As the number of IA wings is small this may have been the way they were obtained. Items bought this way were identified as "LPO" (Local Purchase Order)and usually given NIV (Non Inventory) numbers. It doesn't mean that individuals had to buy their own.

RAF FLYING BADGES
Dave,
In my time, as a holder of many inventories whilst in the Service, I was aware of the 'LPO' System. What I wasn't aware of was that it now used to purchase insignia which always used to be available in the clothing store for other ranks. Hey ho just an old man out of touch!!! Ray |

It seems that the first awards of badges showing the new "Airborne Specialist" badge have been awarded to the RPAS Mission Intelligence Coordinators at Waddington. There was no mention of the uniform badge in the press release.
