243rd Enamelled Badge
Hello:
I have posted a selection of 243rd badges. All maker marked Ellis Bros. 1. 243rd, browning copper with flat lugs 2. 243rd gilded and enamel, missing pin 3. 243rd silver with pin back, no sterling mark I am curious about the second one with the enamel. Is it a full size sweetheart pin or is it an enameled cap badge? Thank you Don |

Hi don
Lovely to see your badges. I think it is a cap badge that has been converted to sweetheart brooch by jeweller or actually made by Ellis. Is the silver badge actually silver or plated,? It looks like the copper is showing through or maybe it's just my eyes? All three rare badges in my opinion. All the best Dan |

Dan:
You are right there is some copper (I think) showing through on the silver badge. Similarly the enameled one also shows some copper showing through where the enamel is damaged. For example just to the left of the C in Canada. While the pin is missing on the gilded one, it shows no sign of having had lugs on it prior to the pin hardware being attached. I guess that is your point though, at Ellis they may have taken the copper badge stamping from the start and made it into a sweetheart pin back device. Interesting thought. Cheers Don |

243 Badges
would it be possible to get a image of each badge, high resolution, good focus and lighting (similar to the posted image) Of these badges for use in the upcoming "CEF Book of Badges". If you could pm me I'll give you the address to send them to (uncompressed - original size).
Thanks
