Default RAASC In Vietnam

Was quite pleased to acquire this Vietnamese made patch for the 1st Transport Platoon of the RAASC.. Finding Aussie patches from the Viet era is difficult, at least here in the U.S. Hand made quilted construction.

A stylized design of the 2 1/2 ton trucks used by the unit. Tactical markings are included in the design looking like the headlights. The patch is divided diagonally using the ASC colors. The unit's motto of You Call We Haul was characteristically mis-spelled as were many English words at the time

The First Transport Platoon deployed to Vietnam in 1966 and would serve there until 1967. 1st TPL was stationed at Vung Tau. It had originally been intended for the Nui Dat area but it was felt that Vung Tau would better serve the task force.

"The Pl was involved in 18 operations during their tour, either inserting or extracting infantry or artillery to fire support bases."

Enjoy
Jack

kind regards

Very Nice! Certainly a hard to find patch.

I don't think it was worn on Jungle Green uniform in Vietnam.

Most of the unofficial Australian patches were worn on things such as flying suits or unofficially on jackets.

Likely worn as pocket patch in the fashion of the US and ARVN troops. The delicate nature of the construction did not lend itself well to frequent washings as administered in the field.
Thanks
Jack

Its possible that it may have been a brassard patch.

I don't think it likely it was worn as a pocket patch however - this practice seemed to be limited to Australian advisers serving with ARVN soldiers.

Had not seen that patch before. Thanks for posting

Do you see many Vietnamese made patches for Australian units that served during the conflict? They are in my opinion somewhat scarce and rarely surface here in the US.

If anyone has any please feel free to post them in this thread

They are also very hard to find here as well. Most were only made in small quantities and lots of people are also collecting them as well.

This one (like all the other armoured ones) was mostly worn on flying suits.

Mate of mine though has an AAAG patch for sale.
