Default Canadian Special Operations Regiment Beret

The Canadian Special Operations Regiment (CSOR) tan beret is also worn by members of the parent formation CANSOFCOM. The tan beret is worn with the member's Regimental, Branch or Element cap insignia by all ranks and Branches except Military Police, who continue to wear the red beret as it is a unique Branch Identifier. In the illustrated example, the cap badge is that of the Royal Canadian Regiment. The beret is made by Dorothea Knitting Mills under the Parkhust name. It is made of pure wool and has a cloth sweatband.

John:

Is the intent to continue with the badge of the parent unit or are there plans to produce a badge unique to this unit?

Hugh

Hugh,
Ah yes, the current can o' worms.
Depending on which rumour mill you subscribe to, there is either a badge in the works (based on either the JTF-2, SSF, SAS, etc. ad nauseum) or no badge planned. DND has supposedly been looking at a few badge proposals but the last I heard, the tan beret would be the only unit identifier, with all pers wearing regimental/branch badges. One of the stumbling blocks is: if there is going to be a CSOR badge, will it only be worn by Cat. 1 (Operators and Specialists) with Cat.2 Support Pers wearing their respective unit badges? Or will both OPS and SUP wear the same badge?
If CSOR goes the same route as JTF-2 regarding badges (in my opinion, the sensible one), there would be no CSOR unit insignia worn in any order of dress. For those who are not familiar with JTF-2 insignia, there is NO JTF-2 cap badge, beret badge, shoulder title, ops wing etc. There is only one genuine article of insignia, the Assaulter's Badge, and that is worn only on the DEU jacket, only after the member has remustered out of the unit after his/her tour.
CANSOFCOM includes JTF-2; CSOR; 427 Special Operations Aviation Squadron; and the Joint Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Defense Coy.

Hi John, here's an example of the JTF-2 Assaulter's Badge. I have no idea if it's a legit example or a repro. There was a rumour that repros exist. I have 3 examples in my collection, none with a provenance. All weigh different weights. Under another post, I'll show more of this badge and perhaps someone else will be able to compare my examples with there and we can see if there is a difference.

Cheers,

Greg

BTW this one came in a large lot of general militaria purchased on epay about 3 years ago.

An update on the regiment. It appears that there is now a cadpat title for the CSOR?

The shown badge was out of common use long before CSOR was stood up. For an RCR soldier, it should have a modern badge with the heavy raised "VRI".

Yes Bill there is a cadpat title CSOR. I am trying to get an AT title from a buddy but as yet, he won't part with the one he has. Hopefully before I am out of here, I can get my grubby paws on one.

Default CSOR Tab

I just got this tab from a buddy yesterday. It is a theater produced tab. From what I have found, to date there is no CSOR tab available through MMD.
